🔹 2-Day Itinerary – Express Climbing Cotopaxi

🧭 For acclimatized climbers with limited time!

This fast and efficient Cotopaxi climb is designed for mountaineers who are already acclimatized — either from previous climbs in Ecuador or recent high-altitude treks in the Andes. It is the classic 2-day itinerary, with a night in the refuge and a summit attempt on day two.

🗓️ Day One: Cotopaxi National Park – Refuge Approach

We depart from Quito (or Latacunga) and travel south along the Pan-American Highway to Cotopaxi National Park. After checking in at the park entrance, we drive up to the José Rivas Refuge at 4,800 m. Upon arrival, you’ll rest, enjoy dinner, and receive a full technical briefing. Our guides will check your gear, discuss safety protocols, and go over the route to the summit.

🗓️ Day Two: Cotopaxi Summit Day – Fast and Focused Climb

Just after midnight, we begin the ascent. Headlamps on and roped together, we move steadily across snow and ice slopes, reaching the summit of Cotopaxi (5,897 m) at sunrise. From the crater, you’ll enjoy incredible views of Ecuador’s volcanoes. After taking photos and a short rest, we begin the descent to the refuge. Following breakfast and gear packing, we drive back to Quito or Latacunga.

⚠️ This itinerary is suitable only for climbers who are already acclimatized to altitudes above 4,500 m.

🔸 3-Day Itinerary – Compact Climbing Cotopaxi Program

🧭 For partially acclimatized climbers or those seeking a short glacier refresh!

This itinerary balances speed and safety. It includes a first day of approach and a light hike, a second day with glacier training and rest, and the summit attempt on the third day. It’s a smart choice if you’ve been at altitude but want extra preparation.

🗓️ Day One: Arrival and Acclimatization Hike

We depart from Quito and enter Cotopaxi National Park. After a scenic drive and gear check, we set up camp at an elevation of 3,900 m. Then, we go for an acclimatization hike to the Rumiñahui Central peak (4,650 m) to prepare the body for altitude gently. After returning to camp, you’ll have dinner and a restful night at the altitude.

🗓️ Day Two: Glacier Practice – Ascent to Refuge

After breakfast, we drive up to 4,600 m and hike toward the base of Cotopaxi’s glacier (~4,800 m). There, our guides provide a condensed glacier skills session: crampons, ice axe handling, rope safety, and self-arrest techniques. Following training, we go to the José Rivas Refuge. Early dinner and rest in preparation for the climb.

🗓️ Day Three: Cotopaxi Summit – Glacier Climb and Return

Summit day begins around midnight. Using all the skills practiced the day before, you’ll rope up with your guide and begin the ascent. The climb typically takes 6–8 hours, depending on conditions and your pace. From the summit, enjoy the sunrise and panoramic views of the Andes. After the descent and breakfast, we return to Quito or Latacunga.
