🗓️ Itinerary:
Day 1: Cuatro Esquinas → Cuartel Inca
First, we drive to Cuatro Esquinas (3,600 m) via the old Panamericana Sur.
Then, we follow the trail of the “last ice-miner of Chimborazo.”
Next, we ascend through pastures with sheep, alpacas, and cows.
Afterward, we reach 4,200 m where grass gives way to rocks.
Finally, we descend to Cuartel Inca (3,800 m) and camp beneath Chimborazo’s south face.
Day 2: Cuartel Inca → Casa Cóndor
At dawn, golden rays illuminate Chimborazo’s summit.
After breakfast, we ascend toward the volcano’s imposing south face.
Then, we traverse southwest toward our second camp at 4,200 m.
Finally, we rest as the sunset paints the sky red-orange.
Day 3: Casa Cóndor → Refugio Carrel
First, we begin on a moderate incline.
Then, we tackle the steepest section to Carrel Refuge at 4,800 m.

Finally, we camp at the glacier’s edge by Chimborazo’s southwest face.
Day 4: Refugio Carrel → Mechahuasca
